Makoto Hasebe & Captain Tsubasa @KIRIN LEMON
Captain Tsubasa.
I used to watch this show when I was about 4 years old, Tsuba (that was his nickname) was my hero! I absolutely believed and respected every word he said. Every time he would jump up into the air and score an impossible goal, I would have stars in my eyes!
I still remember my child self annoying my mum once waiting for this show to come on. The show wasn’t due for 2 hours yet and I remember sitting on the carpet staring up at the clock “Mum! When will Tsuba start??” “When that big clock hand has gone round twice.” …2 minutes later I turn on the TV. “Mum it’s not on!!!” “The other clock hand!” I think I waited a few more minutes and then got bored and wandered off to do something else. XD
Captain Tsubasa is prolly the earliest influence that turned me into football maniac I am today.
But one of the most surprising things was this; I found out just last year later that this show inspired Fernando Torres too, to become a pro footballer!

This is a great Tumblr blog dedicated to that wonderful show! http://fuckyeahcaptaintsubasa.tumblr.com/

Look who else loves Captain Tsubasa, it’s Atsuto Uchida of Schalke 04 with Captain Tsubasa creater Yoichi Takahashi.
Atsuto played the full 90 minutes yesterday when Schalke beat Valencia 3 - 1 to guarantee a place in the quarter finals of the Champions League.
Congratulations to Atsuto and to Schalke! ^^
I remember what it was that made me interested in football in the first place.
When I was about 3 or 4 this cartoon use to come on TV called “Captain Tsubasa”.
I loved that cartoon so much, I used to scream with joy when it was 4 o’clock and it was time for 30 whole minutes of Tsubasa to air. Tsubasa would do something amazingly clever and spin in the air for 2 hours before finally hitting the ball in the net and winning the game. I used to think he was so cool! XD
Even now, 14 years later I still love Tsubasa. I even have a pair of nail clippers with a picture of him on them, talk about random merchandise! XD
It was Captain Tsubasa that made me fall in love with football. For that I’m forever grateful.
I really wish I could buy the boxset somewhere and just watch the series all over again. So many of my best childhood memories are in those episodes!
